In 2006, it was brought to the attention of Department of Agriculture Sec. Art Yap that vegetable losses went as high as 40 percent due to damages from inadequate logistics containers. Secretary Yap studied the problem with container experts and with the industry designing vegetable transport containers that could preserve vegetables and protect them during long distance transportation. According to Ms. Veronica Co of Manly Industrial, the packaging industry that Sec. Yap inspired more than a decade ago has helped countless farmers and has steadily increased the income of farmers while ensuring the quality of fruits and vegetables for Filipino consumers.
